About the Role

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a board-certified Pediatric Gastroenterologist to join the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology within its nationally recognized Department of Pediatrics in coastal South Carolina. This full-time position is located near Myrtle Beach and offers a rewarding, diverse career encompassing clinical care, leading-edge research, and education of future pediatric leaders.

The Gastroenterology & GI Surgery program is repeatedly recognized on the US News & World Report Best Children’s Hospital Rankings and is the largest and most comprehensive program in the region. The division maintains an active consultation service for children with gastrointestinal, nutritional, and liver problems, performing over 16,000 outpatient visits, 2,000 inpatient consultations, and 1,400 procedures annually with an emphasis on clinical excellence.

The team is the only pediatric liver transplant, motility, and advanced therapeutic endoscopy center in South Carolina and collaborates with many other specialties at MUSC Children’s Health to provide holistic patient care. MUSC Children’s Health opened the Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital and Pearl Tourville Women’s Pavilion in 2020, a state-of-the-art 262-bed facility transforming fetal, women’s, and children’s care in the region. Supporting clinical care is the Charles P. Darby Children’s Research Institute, the largest pediatric research facility in the Carolinas.

Opportunity Details

MUSC Children’s Health Pediatric Gastroenterology is expanding outpatient consultation services in the Myrtle Beach area. The established Murrells Inlet location is growing to include a full-time pediatric gastroenterologist and nurse practitioner. Currently, a provider services this area 4 days per week, and due to high demand, the team seeks to expand this offering.

  • Pediatric endoscopy is performed locally within the regional hospital network.
  • This full-time role does not require taking call or fielding after-hours phone calls.
  • The Murrells Inlet clinic is a MUSC pediatric multi-subspecialty office location.
  • Join a collaborative team of 12 faculty physicians, 6 advanced practice providers (APPs), dietitians, and fellows.
  • Schedule includes 1 administrative day and 4 clinic days per week, averaging 12 patients per day.

Ideal Candidate

  • Board-certified Pediatrician who has completed an accredited Pediatric Gastroenterology Fellowship.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in South Carolina.
  • Committed to MUSC’s educational missions and enthusiastic about teaching.
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills, with interest in program development opportunities.
