Position Summary
This position performs a variety of direct patient care services to assist in the implementation of selected portions of the care plan as directed and supervised by a Clinical Nurse. In addition, this position performs a variety of clerical and customer service support functions for a patient care unit/department to provide for the timely sharing of information, communication, and order entry to appropriate sources.
Position Duties
- As directed and supervised by healthcare professional; collects and records a variety of routine patient data to ensure ongoing accuracy or patient chart.
- Performs a variety of patient chart maintenance activities to provide for ready availability and accessibility to data.
- As directed and supervised by healthcare professional, performs a variety of basic patient care activities to provide for optimal comfort and safety of the patient.
- Identifies and reports unusual findings or observations, clinical symptoms, behaviors, and treatment administered to appropriate healthcare professional to ensure timely and effective intervention.
- Maintains inventory levels of stock items, supplies, and equipment; photocopies and files documents as requested to provide for efficient unit operations.
- Participates in a variety of in-service programs, meetings, conferences, and daily care rounds to maintain understanding of care plan changes, issues, and expectations.
- Performs a variety of activities to provide for ongoing maintenance of the unit's environment;
- Greets patients, families, visitors, and care team members to the unit; answers telephone and call lights as appropriate and responds to inquiries both in person and via telephone;
- Provides orientation to the unit and hospital systems and processes to patients and family members to ensure familiarity with unit's policies and requirements.
- Assembles patient charts for new admissions and enters admission orders and demographic data as needed to provide for timely and complete patient record for efficient patient care and financial processes.
- Updates chart locator database to ensure accurate information.
- Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
Position Qualifications
- Completion of a course of study leading to a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Six months experience with computer data entry or word processing.
- Patient care experience.
- Current Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Current Arizona EMT/Arizona Paramedic Certification OR successfully completed clinical nursing skills portion of an accredited nursing program (RN) within 2 years of date of hire.
- Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association prior to start date.
