Essential Functions

  • Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
  • Provides security at ID checkpoint, ensuring visitors have been properly cleared to be on premises and that the appropriate department provides the visitor with an escort.
  • Verifies that employees and students have proper credentials to access their respective location.
  • Provides security services in support of board meetings and activities, as directed.
  • Gives direction and provides assistance to employees, visitors, and guests in support of board meetings, district based activities, and emergencies, as directed.
  • Conducts security patrols and checks of the RBELC, OTC, and other non-school district facilities as directed.
  • Identifies, reports, and resolves security breaches.
  • Represents the district in matters involving security, access, and property control.
  • Works under the direction of district police to conduct random and directed safety screenings.
  • Utilizes cameras to monitor property owned or operated by the School Board of Orange County.
  • Represents the district with a positive, professional demeanor.
  • Remains observant at all times; greets staff, guests, and vendors in an attentive manner.
  • Communicates effectively with other members of the security team, district police and district employees.
  • Works effectively with others to ensure a safe learning and working environment.
  • Responds to distress calls, duress alarms, and emergency calls for disorderly conduct, disruptive persons, and incidents.
  • Collaborates with other security officers to ensure effective protection and coverage.
  • Performs workspace and equipment inspections, as directed.
  • Utilizes computers and tablets with proficiency; learns new software programs and security systems as needed.
  • Performs investigative activities in response to complaints, incidents, accidents or other reported concerns, (e.g., auto accidents, illnesses or injuries, missing students at OTC).
  • Inspects facility areas and reports potential hazards (i.e., unlocked gates, doors and windows, equipment left running, lights, gas leaks, water leaks and water main breaks).
  • Completes daily reports, to include but not limited to, security and monitoring activities, daily activities, incident reports, and maintenance requests.
  • Operates assigned transportation vehicle and provides routine washing and maintenance, as required.
  • Provides timely and accurate reporting.

Minimum Training And Experience

  • A high school diploma or GED;
  • Three (3) years previous security, military, law enforcement, or correctional experience, with demonstrated investigative and interpersonal communication skills for addressing potentially hazardous circumstances;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, good observation skills and judgement;
  • The ability to work with security, communications, and law enforcement team members;
  • Successful completion and the ability to remain current in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), first aid and CPR training;
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license;
  • The ability to obtain and remain up to date on mandated training classes required for the position;
  • Satisfactory district background investigation.

  • Physical Ability: Some tasks may involve the ability to exert extremely heavy physical effort in very heavy work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials in excess of 100 pounds, such as when transporting sick or injured persons.
  • Sensory Requirements: Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds.
  • Environmental Factors: Tasks are regularly performed with some risk of exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dust, humidity, rain, temperature extremes, traffic hazards, and violence.
