Underwriting Assistant Mid-Market

About the role

ISC's Excess team is looking for an Underwriting Assistant to support senior underwriting staff. This role involves administrative duties related to new and renewal accounts, risk assessment, loss runs, and loss ratings. You may also assist with computing rates and premiums. This is a developing-level position.

Responsibilities

• Utilize understanding of exposures and risk analysis to assess loss history and financial condition of cases.
• Collect, study, and review documentation pertaining to risk cases to determine acceptance.
• Conduct preliminary reviews of complex submissions to identify errors, omissions, and confirm eligibility.
• Collaborate closely with the underwriting team to finalize insurance applications efficiently.
• Utilize multiple databases to gather and verify supplementary data for submissions.
• Manage inbound calls, connecting customers and team members for a seamless experience.
• Respond to customer needs, providing guidance tailored to their insurance requirements.
• Process accounts from approved quotes through to policy issuance with accuracy.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Minimum of 1 year of P&C underwriting or related P&C underwriting support experience.
• CPCU, CIC, CRIS, or Property & Casualty Brokers License is a plus.
• Strong customer service experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to quickly learn industry-specific software.
• Ability to work collaboratively with team members and other departments.
• Strong desire to learn, explore new ideas, and seek out new knowledge.
• Flexibility to embrace change and pivot quickly in response to shifting priorities.

Location

Candidates must be located within a commutable distance to our Carlsbad, CA or Buffalo, NY office (hybrid capacity) or work remotely from Lincoln, NE or Phoenix, AZ.

Pay

National pay range: $26 USD - $33 USD per hour. Actual starting pay will be based on skills, qualifications, training, and experience.
