Responsibilities

  • Provides individual and group academic advisement, including planning, presenting, advising, and proactive follow-up, and summarizes advisement reports as requested by the College of Engineering and Computer Science Student Services Center (CECS SSC)/EOP Director or Associate Dean.
  • Assists the Director in developing promotion materials, implementing/coordinating special events such as Admitted Matadors Day, Major’s Fair, and community college and high school recruitment fairs.
  • Analyzes advising-related data and plans/conducts advising workshops.
  • Assists the Director in planning, coordinating, and implementing advisement, retention, and tutoring services provided by the CECS SSC/EOP.
  • Assists with EOP Freshman/Transfer Advisement, transitional programs, and admissions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a job-related field.
  • Equivalent to two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.
  • A Master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
  • Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience developing advisement procedures; experience with Educational Opportunity and/or Trio Program is a plus.

Skills

  • Knowledge of academic advising principles, university policies, degree requirements, and student success strategies.
  • Ability to provide holistic academic advisement and develop educational plans that support student persistence and timely graduation.
  • Skill in building collaborative relationships with diverse student populations, faculty, staff, and campus partners while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to analyze student and advising data, prepare reports, and use technology platforms such as Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, SOLAR, EAB, or similar student success systems.
  • Knowledge of Educational Opportunity Programs (EOP), student retention practices, and services supporting historically underrepresented, first-generation, and low-income students.
  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational, presentation, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, conduct workshops, and coordinate outreach and recruitment activities.
  • Demonstrated experience working with students in multi-cultural/multi-ethnic populations; students that are historically under-represented, under-prepared, low-income, and first-generation college students.
  • Working knowledge of SOLAR and/or EAB program.

Pay

The anticipated hiring rate is $5,083 per month. The salary range for this classification is $5,083 - $7,228 per month.

Schedule

  • Full-time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday (may include evenings and weekends).
  • Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
  • Currently hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote); subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
