Undergraduate Academic Advisor
About the role
The Undergraduate Academic Advisor, under the general supervision of the College of the Arts (COTA) Director of Academic Advising and Lead Advisors, and in consultation with department chairs, advises undergraduate students on academic requirements, policies, and procedures. The advisor also supports programs and initiatives to enhance the academic success and retention of COTA's undergraduate students.
Responsibilities
- Educate and advise students on their academic requirements.
- Affirmative action statement: Assist with the implementation of admissions, advising, and enrollment policies and processes.
- Affirmative action statement: Serve as a source of referral for academic and student support services.
Requirements
- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field.
- Two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.
- Experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.
- A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
- Academic advising experience in a higher education setting is preferred.

They bring experience in evaluating course outlines and syllabi from other institutions to determine equivalency and articulation. Technologically proficient, they effectively utilize systems related to degree tracking, enrollment, and scheduling, while demonstrating excellent organizational skills, including prioritization, multitasking, and meeting deadlines. Additionally, they possess strong analytical and decision-making abilities, applying critical and creative thinking to navigate complex or sensitive student situations with sound judgment and objectivity. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Pay
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources. Hiring Rate: The hiring ratee for this position is $5,083 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,083 - $7,228 per month.
