The Physician/Medical Director - Region or Facility at Central Louisiana State Hospital is responsible for providing medical/clinical services to inpatient clients. They play a crucial role in the Louisiana Department of Health's behavioral health community by adhering to the hospital's values and mission.
Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise 3 physicians and 4 department head employees, developing meaningful performance plans, monitoring work with coaching, providing adequate direction and training, and conducting evaluations according to DHH guidelines.
- Provide direct psychiatric care and medical patient care, including making unit rounds, conducting multidisciplinary staffing, and updating treatment plans.
- Coordinate duties and functions of all clinical staff, including psychologists, nurses, social workers, activity therapists, and others providing direct patient care.
- Attend and participate in hospital committees such as Executive Management Team, P&T Committee, Quality Improvement Committee, HIMs Committee, and chairing the Medical Executive Committee.
- Participate in continuing education programs.
- Review and update Medical Staff Bylaws and hospital policies and procedures annually, ensuring compliance with Joint Commission Standards.
- Serve as the clinical leader of the treatment teams.
- Examine, diagnose, and treat mentally ill patients, including new admissions, and perform psychiatric evaluations and prescribe emergency treatment and/or medication.
- Approve and sign treatment plans developed by the interdisciplinary treatment team and adhere to prescribed treatment regimens.
- Order necessary medical tests, treatments, and medications as appropriate.
- Conduct interviews with families and relatives and prepare correspondence.
- Perform case recording in accordance with the approved case recording system.
- Regularly attend Medical Staff and other committee meetings as scheduled.
- Maintain current certification and comply with CME requirements for state licensure and/or Board Certification.
- Adhere to LDH, OBH, Civil Service, and CLSH rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the profession.
Requirements
Licensure to practice medicine in the State of Louisiana.
