Responsibilities

  • Performs the general duties of Ultrasound tech Criteria A
  • Reviews and/or records pertinent patient history, supportive clinical data and any previous imaging studies
  • Demonstrates anatomy through proper positioning and techniques and is knowledgeable of anatomical landmarks
  • Presents sonographic findings and pertinent patient information to Radiologists for interpretation
  • Patient Care Criteria A: Technologist checks requests for ultrasound exam ordered and special instructions
  • Patient Care Criteria B: Pleasantly greets, is courteous and cooperative to patients and their family members
  • Patient Care Criteria C: Explains procedures and ultrasound to the patient and gets consent forms signed, if needed
  • Patient Care Criteria D: Maintains patient confidentiality. Patient records and paperwork
  • Criteria A: Records procedures complete. Patient records and paperwork
  • Criteria B: Checks for correct charges on requests. Patient records and paperwork
  • Criteria C: Properly annotates all images. Patient records and paperwork
  • Criteria D: Checks that all the correct information is on the films. Patient records and paperwork
  • Teaching/Education Criteria A: Keeps current on Ultrasound procedures and methodology with journals, seminars and video-taped learning programs
  • Teaching/Education Criteria B: Attends staff meetings and inservices
  • Teaching/Education Criteria C: Assists in orientation/training of Radiology Residents in ultrasound equipment and procedures
  • Response to emergencies and assistance. Criteria A: Responds quickly and effectively in the event of a medical emergency or problems that arise
  • Response to emergencies and assistance. Criteria B: Has knowledge of emergency equipment and their locations
  • Response to emergencies and assistance. Criteria C: Able to recognize when a patient needs medical assistance
  • Stocking and inventory Criteria A: Assists in keeping ultrasound area stocked with necessary items
  • Equipment functionality Criteria A: Performs visual inspection of equipment and reports any malfunctions
  • Equipment functionality Criteria B: Assesses film quality and reports any deviations from normal quality

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited ultrasound program
  • Minimum Experience: zero to six months
  • Desired: ARDMS Registered or must become registered within 1 year of hire
  • Certification by the ARDMS plus 3 years experience in ultrasound preferred
