About the role

To perform routine and specialized examinations in Ultrasound; adapt procedures to obtain specific diagnostic and/or therapeutic results; prepare patients for examinations. This requires independent judgment to adapt procedures to obtain specific diagnostic results under the direction of a radiologist.

Responsibilities

  • Performs ultrasound procedures in a manner that ensures an accurate and complete examination within the guidelines, policies, procedures and standards of Medical Imaging to assigned patients of all ages.
  • Exhibits competency in performing ultrasound procedures, including required views demonstrating appropriate anatomy and pathology.
  • Knowledgeable of catheters, biopsy instruments, and sterile trays and prepares these items as necessary.
  • Obtains accurate histories and explains rationale for procedure to patients/families.
  • Enhances image quality through the use of appropriate transducers and machine settings.
  • Evaluates the finished images to ensure diagnostic exams are being submitted to the radiologists.
  • Maintains quality care throughout the procedure.
  • Assesses the abdominal arterial and venous system using color imaging.
  • Maintains working knowledge of equipment in order to function in all areas of ultrasound, including all ultrasound equipment within the Medical Imaging Ultrasound department.
  • Technically knowledgeable of equipment operation including hardware and software.
  • Performs reasonable troubleshooting and reports equipment problems through appropriate channels, documenting on board for all staff notification.
  • Maintains clean work area, checks and stocks all supplies in their specific area, and verifies pertinent accessories assigned to that room.
  • For invasive procedures:
    • Able to document area of concern.
    • Sets up trays with sterile field for radiologist.
    • Assists radiologist with biopsy.
    • Orders labs and pathology tests under the direction of a radiologist.
  • Performs support functions of the Medical Imaging department to ensure patient expectations and needs are met and assumes personal responsibility for training fellow technologists/students.
  • Promptly processes images and paperwork to ensure timely turnaround in providing a report to the physician's office.
  • Fills out all appropriate paperwork to facilitate timely and accurate reporting.
  • Maintains and coordinates patient flow to ensure efficient and expedient patient care.
  • Promptly and accurately enters patient information into HIS system to ensure efficient patient throughput.
  • Maintains the QA, QC, QI programs.
  • Shares knowledge and guides fellow technologists/students with proper department protocol and procedures.
  • Displays a professional attitude toward fellow technologists/students, fostering mutual respect and creating a productive learning environment.

Requirements

Certifications

  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) within 1 year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Registered Vascular Technologist – Vascular Technology (RVT-VT) within 1 year – American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).

Education

  • Certificate of Completion: Radiologic Technology.
  • Associate's Degree: Related Field.

Pay

The compensation range for this position is $35.50 per hour - $61.06 per hour. The actual compensation offered will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked, and compensation model.
