Schedule

Full time (40 hours per week), Monday–Friday from 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, no weekends, no on-call, no holidays.

About the role

The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations. The Ultrasound Technologist oversees daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, including patient scheduling, equipment maintenance, reporting equipment failures, and quality assessment. The Sonographer maintains high medical ethics, stays current with evolving procedures, and may perform limited diagnostic X-ray procedures if registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Responsibilities

• Perform all diagnostic ultrasound procedures according to department policy and procedure, including weekend, holiday, and on-call shifts as scheduled.
• Provide care to patients across all age groups: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
• Receive and review requests, checking for special instructions from requesting physicians; consult with Radiologists as needed.
• Greet patients, verify identity, and explain procedures to patients and families.
• Complete required documentation of patient history, examinations, and billing.
• Document technical observations for each procedure and seek assistance as needed.
• Evaluate, synthesize, and communicate diagnostic information to attending physicians.
• Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare teams, adapting to diverse cultural, religious, and ethnic backgrounds.
• Use independent judgment to optimize diagnostic sonographic information for each examination.
• Integrate diagnostic sonograms, laboratory results, patient history, and medical records to adapt examinations as necessary.
• Travel to various site locations as required.
• Participate in the clinical education of students and staff.
• Conduct visual preventive safety inspections for assigned ultrasound rooms and report issues.
• Maintain necessary inventory supplies and report replenishment needs.
• Work efficiently and manage emergency situations.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and healthcare team.
• Participate in on-call responsibilities as required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Graduation from an accredited program for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
• Completion of required classroom hours and material to take the ARDMS Abdomen, Physics, and OB/GYN registry exams.
• Completion of required clinical experience and hours to take the ARDMS Abdomen, Physics, and OB/GYN registry exams.
• Valid PA driver’s license if providing portable services.
• CPR certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years of experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
• Certified by the ARDMS in Vascular Technology (RVT).
• Certified by the ARDMS in Physics (SPI), OB/GYN, and ABD within 18 months of placement.
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification (may be required for select positions).
• For Maternal and Fetal Medicine: Certified by ARDMS in Physics (SPI) and OB/GYN; Vascular Technology (RVT) and ARRT certifications not required. Nasal Bone/Nuchal translucency certification within 6–12 months. Experience with fetal echocardiograms.
• For Cardiology: OB/GYN certification not required.
• Bilingual in Spanish.
