Ultrasound Technologist (Casual/PRN)

Nemours Children's Health is seeking an Ultrasound Technologist (Casual/PRN) to join our team in Wilmington, Delaware.

About the role

The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all ultrasound-related equipment, performance of ultrasound studies to demonstrate various organs of the body, and recording these images in standard formats for physician diagnosis. The technologist must be ARDMS registered or registry eligible, with completion of the registry within one year of employment.

This role is considered essential personnel for the hospital, requiring availability during inclement weather or code delta events that demand additional resources. The technologist will perform portable ultrasound exams across inpatient units, outpatient clinics, the emergency department, and the operating room as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform ultrasound studies and record images in standard diagnostic formats.
• Provide accurate preparation instructions to patients/families and answer procedural questions.
• Conduct portable ultrasound exams in various hospital departments.
• Ensure proper patient identification, image labeling, PACS interaction, and documentation.
• Operate hospital computer systems for patient data entry and retrieval.
• Prepare, administer, and document contrast media under direct supervision of a radiologist/physician.
• Observe patients for allergic reactions after contrast administration.
• Screen patients for contraindications that may pose health or safety risks.
• Ensure proper function of equipment through usage and maintenance; report unsafe conditions and incidents.
• Participate in departmental and hospital Quality Assurance and improvement programs.
• Work collaboratively with others, act as a team member, and engage in critical thinking to improve care quality.
• Communicate effectively with counterparts and all departments, including accepting feedback and asking questions.
• Assist in training new personnel, students, and physicians.
• Maintain regular attendance and flexibility in scheduling, including on-call availability.

Requirements

• Specialized training (1 year beyond high school).
• Minimum of 6 months of experience.
• ARDMS registration or eligibility (must complete within one year of employment).
• American Heart Association BLS Certification (required within 90 days of start date).
• Reliable transportation.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including on-call shifts.
