Job Summary
About the role
Responsible for performing diagnostic imaging services in the specialty of ultrasound. The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for the operation of a variety of equipment to produce images on the patient’s body for diagnostic purposes. Interviews patients, explains procedures, reviews test results with radiologists and referring physicians. Promotes the organization's philosophy and ensures the quality and continuity of patient care.
Responsibilities
- Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic ultrasound examinations.
- Selects appropriate equipment for use in ultrasound setup, following exam specifications.
- Explains the test to the patient. Instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for exam.
- Provides care appropriate to the condition and age of the patient.
- Discusses test results with Radiologist or attending/ordering physician.
- Selects a transducer and adjusts equipment controls according to the organ to be examined, the depth of the field and other specifications of the test.
- Utilizes aseptic technique during invasive procedures.
- Accurately documents ultrasound findings according to established protocols.
- Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed.
- Maintains accurate QC logs, service record, etc.
- Understands and practices proper use of equipment.
- Cleans and sterilizes transducers, supplies, equipment, stocks and replenishes supplies as needed.
Additional Responsibilities
- Helps with transportation of patients to and from Ultrasound department.
- Affords assistance with scheduling patients as needed.
- Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited sonography program and/or ARDMS registered in the areas of physics, abdomen, obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN).
- 1+ year of experience as an obstetric and/or abdominal ultrasound tech.
- Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) preferred.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography preferred but not required.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with patients and health care staff.
- BLS certified.
