About the Role

The Ultrasonographer performs specialized technical tasks using high-frequency ultrasound waves to assist in detecting anatomical abnormalities.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex specialized tasks using ultrasonic high-frequency sound waves to detect abnormalities, including masses, abscesses, and stones.
• Assist physicians with biopsy procedures.
• Perform ultrasound procedures, color Doppler vascular examinations, abdominal studies, color-flow ultrasound, and Ob-Gyn procedures while maintaining patient records and documentation.
• Respond and implement change as needed, demonstrating good decision-making skills.
• Assist with quality control and maintenance of all equipment in the area.
• Properly utilize accessory equipment such as transducers, cleaning systems, warmers, scanners, printers, and PACS workstations.
• Prepare patients for procedures, explain procedures to patients, and report changes in patient condition to medical staff.
• Provide an oral and written summary of preliminary findings to the radiologist.
• Evaluate the quality of exams and determine if additional sonograms or ultrasound procedures are indicated, discussing with physicians as needed.
• Assist in training new staff and students during clinical rotations.
• Follow, maintain, and help implement hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
• Communicate positively with patients, guests, staff, and physicians.
• Adhere to compliance and regulatory requirements, including federal, state, and accrediting bodies, and follow the standard practice of care for patients, staff, guests, and facilities.
• Adhere to departmental procedures and protocols.
• Participate in rotating call for after-hours and weekends.
• Ensure correct charging of procedures and supplies on a daily basis.
• Work as a team member with peers and other departments, responding calmly and efficiently to situations.
• Regularly attend departmental meetings, in-services, and actively participate in continuing education activities.
• Perform other duties as requested by supervisor or manager.
• May be assigned to cover additional shifts to meet departmental needs.

Requirements

• Accredited two-year Allied Health/Nursing Degree or Bachelor of Science degree.
• Successful completion of a recognized and accredited program in Ultrasound Technology.
• Currently registered with ARDMS in physics and at least one specialty (abdomen or pelvis).
• Active membership in ARDMS.
• BLS certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• 18 months of experience in Abdomen, Ob/Gyn, and small parts sonography.
