About the role

Performs diagnostic sleep studies related to the evaluation and treatment of patients with sleep disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and prioritizes both inpatient and outpatient procedures.
  • Ensures proper document flow and storage according to departmental guidelines.
  • Completes patient testing procedures within established time frames.
  • Documents procedures performed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Fills out necessary departmental documentation.
  • Sets up initial data for physician use in sleep report preparation.
  • Communicates with patients and families about the procedure.
  • Observes, records, and reports patient concerns and reactions.
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of equipment and work areas.
  • Cleans and prepares necessary items for sterilization.
  • Attends educational inservices and workshops.
  • Assists in providing inservices on sleep procedures and equipment operation.
  • Provides information to other healthcare workers and the general public.

Requirements

  • Completed or enrolled in a BRPT approved Sleep Technology Approved Resource (STAR) designated focused education program.
  • A-STEP on-line self-study modules.
  • A-STEP 80-hour Introductory Course.
  • PolySOM program through CoARC or CAAHEP.
  • Registered Polysomnography Technician (RPSGT) certification.
  • Basic Life Support certification.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in an Allied Health Field.
  • Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT).
  • One year of health care experience.
  • One year of Sleep Lab experience.

Skills

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with physicians, staff, and patients.
