About the role
Performs diagnostic sleep studies related to the evaluation and treatment of patients with sleep disorders.
Responsibilities
- Schedules and prioritizes both inpatient and outpatient procedures.
- Ensures proper document flow and storage according to departmental guidelines.
- Completes patient testing procedures within established time frames.
- Documents procedures performed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Fills out necessary departmental documentation.
- Sets up initial data for physician use in sleep report preparation.
- Communicates with patients and families about the procedure.
- Observes, records, and reports patient concerns and reactions.
- Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of equipment and work areas.
- Cleans and prepares necessary items for sterilization.
- Attends educational inservices and workshops.
- Assists in providing inservices on sleep procedures and equipment operation.
- Provides information to other healthcare workers and the general public.
Requirements
- Completed or enrolled in a BRPT approved Sleep Technology Approved Resource (STAR) designated focused education program.
- A-STEP on-line self-study modules.
- A-STEP 80-hour Introductory Course.
- PolySOM program through CoARC or CAAHEP.
- Registered Polysomnography Technician (RPSGT) certification.
- Basic Life Support certification.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in an Allied Health Field.
- Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT).
- One year of health care experience.
- One year of Sleep Lab experience.
Skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate with physicians, staff, and patients.
