About the role

Performs diagnostic sleep studies related to the evaluation and treatment of patients with sleep disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and prioritizes both inpatient and outpatient procedures.
  • Ensures proper document flow and storage according to departmental guidelines.
  • Completes patient testing procedures within established time frames.
  • Documents procedures performed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Fills out necessary departmental documentation.
  • Submits accurate and timely patient charges.
  • Obtains necessary information from the clinical record or by directly questioning the patient.
  • Performs sleep studies in accordance with policy and procedure guidelines.
  • Accurately records the electrical impulses of the neurological system.
  • Prepares initial data for use by the physician.
  • Informs the patient and family about the nature and significance of the procedure.
  • Accurately observes, records, and reports all patient concerns and symptoms.
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of equipment and work areas.
  • Assists in maintaining a daily stock of clean linen and supplies.
  • Cleans and prepares necessary items for sterilization.
  • Attends educational inservices and workshops.
  • Maintains Continuing Education (CEU) requirements.
  • Assists in providing inservices regarding sleep procedures and equipment operation.
  • Provides information to other healthcare workers and the general public.

Requirements

  • Completed or enrolled in a BRPT approved Sleep Technology Approved Resource (STAR) designated focused education program.
  • Registered Polysomnography Technician (RPSGT) through the Board of Polysomnographic Technologists or must obtain within 30 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
  • One (1) year of health care experience.
  • One (1) year of Sleep Lab experience.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in an Allied Health Field.
  • Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) upon hire.

Skills

  • Good verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with physicians, staff, and patients.
