About the role

Performs diagnostic sleep studies related to the evaluation and treatment of patients with sleep disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and prioritizes inpatient and outpatient procedures.
  • Ensures proper document flow and storage according to departmental guidelines.
  • Completes patient testing procedures within established time frames.
  • Documents procedures performed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Fills out necessary departmental documentation.
  • Submits accurate and timely patient charges.
  • Obtains necessary information from patient records and directly from the patient.
  • Performs sleep studies in accordance with policy and procedure guidelines.
  • Records electrical impulses of the neurological system accurately.
  • Prepares initial data for physician use.
  • Informs patients and families about the procedure.
  • Accurately observes, records, and reports patient concerns and symptoms.
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of equipment and work areas.
  • Cleans and prepares necessary items for sterilization.
  • Maintains continuing education requirements.
  • Assists in providing research support and assisting with related research activities.
  • Provides inservices on sleep procedures and equipment operation.
  • Trains trainees, house-staff, and medical staff.
  • Communicates with co-workers and staff.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completed or enrolled in a BRPT-approved Sleep Technology program.
  • Registered Polysomnography Technician (RPSGT) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in an Allied Health Field.
  • Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) certification upon hire.
  • ACLS certification within 90 days of hire.
  • One year of health care experience.
  • One year of Sleep Lab experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, push, or pull minimum of 40 pounds.

Working Environment

  • Performs sleep studies in accordance with policy and procedure guidelines in the Sleep Evaluation Center, at the bedside, and in critical care areas of the hospital.

Skills and Abilities

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with physicians, staff, and patients.
