About the role
The Safety & Training Coordinator reports to the Senior Safety & Training Coordinator, providing training and safety support that complies with national, corporate, and legislative standards. The role also implements a skills-based training program for the Mining Department.
Responsibilities
- Ensure personnel are adequately inducted and trained in their work area and are aware of all workplace rules and critical procedures.
- Actively contribute to new initiatives and implement change as directed by the Project Manager and the site management team.
- Actively promote, monitor, and enforce compliance of personnel with safe work practices.
- Participate in incident investigations to establish root cause of incidents and determine corrective actions.
- Facilitate and participate in the Formal Risk Assessment process.
- Maintain an accurate and full account of all standard operating procedures, emergency procedures and plans and Job Hazard Analysis.
- Undertake and record regular inspections of underground working areas, stockpiles, waste dumps, etc. to ensure safe operations.
- Host daily safety meetings for underground mining.
- Ensure all safety-related activities are undertaken in accordance with Company policy and MSHA requirements including Hazard ID’s, pre-start checks, pre-start meetings, and incident reporting.
Qualifications
- Blue Card certified (Underground).
- Certified Drug & Alcohol collection and testing.
- Current Driver’s License.
- Experience working in a mechanized hard-rock underground mine.
- Practical experience in the interpretation and application of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations.
- Experience in incident investigation and reporting.
- Familiarity with INX database modules such as InTuition, InFlight and InControl.
- Demonstrated experience in competency-based training and assessment methods and delivery of training materials to crews.
- Auditing or inspection experience.
- Good skills in spreadsheet, presentation, word processing, and database applications.
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels.
- Report writing and presentation skills.
- Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
- Pass a background check and post-offer physical.
