About the role

The Hudson Afterschool program provides educational support, recreational opportunity, skill building, character education and a nutritional snack for each participant during three hours of structured daily activities. Collaborations with service providers offer specialized services for participating youth. With a focus on providing youth with a message promoting positive attitude regarding school, delaying childbearing and violence prevention, the program offers interesting and engaging alternatives in Hudson serving grades Kindergarten-8th grades. The programs are available every school day and students are expected to participate in each 2.5 hour session.

Responsibilities

  • Provides after-school support and supervision for the youth
  • Plans and conducts age-appropriate activities in partnership with the youth that address the goals established by the youth
  • Provide an atmosphere which builds friendships, encourages healthy social interactions and promotes recreational opportunities for children
  • Provides direct care staff with hands on training
  • Develops curriculum and lesson planning
  • Conducts community and parent outreach/engagement activities
  • Counted towards student to staff ratio
  • Communicates clearly with youth employing active listening skills
  • Establishes and maintains professional boundaries
  • Defines expectations clearly
  • Respects youth and families' cultural norms when selecting activities
  • Models and teaches socially acceptable behaviors

Requirements

  • Must have current NYS Teaching License
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Must have excellent verbal, written, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of urban, suburban and rural cultures and with community members from varying socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
  • Must be organized, flexible, energetic, and demonstrate an understanding of positive discipline approaches and conflict resolution
  • Attends SACC and program activity or instructional trainings as required
  • Regular and steady attendance is a requirement for all positions

Pay & Schedule

Part Time – Up to 10 hours per week at $42.00 per hour. Shift schedule: Monday–Friday 3pm–5:30pm (hours will vary). Work locations: 102 Harry Howard Ave (Elementary School K–5th grade) and 215 Harry Howard Ave (Junior High School 6th–8th grade).
