Tutor Module 2: Business (Westshore)

About the Role
The Business Tutor works directly with students, either one-on-one or in small group sessions, aiming to foster independent learning and help students achieve their academic goals.
Topics covered include Business and Marketing terminology, Business concepts, and local and global markets. Knowledge from courses such as Intro to Business, Project Management, Small Business Management, Logistics Management, and Business Communications is essential.
Responsibilities
- Provides one-on-one and small group tutoring support
- Offers subject-specific content strategies tailored to different learning styles and preferences to help students understand key concepts
- Assists with the use of equipment and learning materials needed for student success
- Conducts “class visits” and assists with publicizing the College’s tutoring services
- Maintains accurate records in accordance with stated deadlines
- Completes all necessary paperwork accurately and according to stated deadlines
- Assists with the development and maintenance of departmental instructional materials
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Education consistent with department needs and minimum of an associate’s degree in a related field of study
- Demonstrated knowledge and competence in the subject matter
- Ability to explain concepts effectively to others
- Ability to multitask with varying levels of students and subject material
- Ability to communicate with faculty regarding student expectations, assignments, attendance, and progress
- Ability to effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success
- Ability to work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds
- Patience and a positive attitude in establishing an encouraging learning environment
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Physical Demands
The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The employee may sit comfortably to perform duties, including repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard. Some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items (e.g., papers, files, pamphlets, books) may be required. Work may also involve travel to and attendance at meetings or conferences away from the worksite.
Pay
$18.21 per hour
Schedule
Flexible schedule (days, evenings, weekends). Schedule varies based on department needs. The supervisor will work with the selected candidate to set a schedule designed to support departmental demands.
