Tutor, Math (Westshore)
Job Description
Works directly with students, either in one-on-one or small groups to provide academic tutorial assistance, helping students become independent learners that persevere and reach their academic goals.
Essential Functions
- Supports the department’s goal of providing students with supplemental academic support by:
- Providing one-on-one and small group tutoring support
- Providing subject-specific content strategies, attuned to different learning styles and preferences, to help students understand key concepts learned in class
- Conducting “class visits” and assisting with publicizing the College’s tutoring services
- Affording direct assistance in the use of equipment and learning materials needed for student’s success
- Maintaining accurate records in accordance to stated deadlines
- Completing all necessary paperwork accurately and according to stated deadlines
- Affording assistance with the development and maintenance of departmental instructional materials
- Performing other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Education consistent with the department needs & minimum of associate’s degree in related field of study

- Demonstrated knowledge and competence in the subject matter
- Ability to explain concepts to others effectively
- Ability to multitask with varying levels of students and subject material
- Ability to communicate with faculty regarding expectations of students, assignments, attendance at tutoring sessions and work completed
- Ability to effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success
- Possess patience and positive attitudes in establishing an encouraging learning environment
- Possess strong organizational and time-management skills
- Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Possess working knowledge of administrative and scheduling concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to apply to varied situations
- Demonstrated basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Possess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of the community

Physical Demands/Working Conditions
The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc. Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite.
Special Note
This is a Part-Time Non-Bargaining Unit Position, with the following Set Rate of Pay: $18.21/ hour. If hired, you must reside in the state of Ohio and be within commuting distance of this work location/campus to respond to onsite work demands upon the employment start date and throughout the duration of your employment with the College, as outlined in 3354:1-40-01.1
