Truck Sales Representative

About the role

The primary function of the Truck Sales Representative is responsible for the selling of new and used heavy duty and medium duty trucks. The position will increase market penetration by selling and developing market strategies to qualified customers in the designated area of responsibility and achieve unit goals and gross profit.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the position on a daily, weekly or annual basis.
  • Contact new prospects via in-person cold calls, direct mail programs, email, and telemarketing.
  • Utilize and Provide Information through the CRM tool.
  • Develop and present sales proposals to prospects and new customers.
  • Communicate with the sales team, in daily correspondence and weekly meetings.
  • Maintain and expand customer base through close customer relations. Emphasis should be placed on building personal relationship with customers through conversation, education, enterprise value and customer service.
  • Pursues training about new features of the product by participating in Kenworth Truck Company opportunities. Demonstrates knowledge of the product of competition.
  • Maintain and develop sales plan for each year, using corporate documentation procedures, i.e. – call reports, expense reports, etc.
  • Other Duties as Assigned.

Qualifications

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Position requires a high school diploma. 5 years sales experience in the truck, commercial equipment sales field. Position requires the ability to operate motor vehicles have a valid drivers license and maintain a safe driving record. Current Commercial Driver's License is preferred but not required to begin the position.

Working hours

The individual may be required to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, or extended hours based on the sales transactions and operational needs. Flexibility and Adaptability: The ability to adapt to changing schedules, travel plans, and client demands is vital. This role may require frequent travel, sometimes on short notice, necessitating flexibility in working hours and travel arrangements.

Physical Requirements

  • Mobile: The individual should be capable of moving around the repair shop, including walking, standing, and potentially bending or kneeling to inspect vehicles or equipment.
  • Visual: Good visual acuity is necessary for driving and navigating different locations. This includes the ability to read maps, GPS systems, and paperwork related to sales transactions.
  • Hearing: The individual should have good hearing to communicate effectively with customers, and vendors, and to be aware of any audible warnings or signals in the repair shop.
  • Manual Dexterity: A certain level of manual dexterity is required for the individual to handle paperwork, use computer systems.
  • Lifting and Handling: While not as physically demanding as a mechanic's role, a salesperson in this field might occasionally need to handle sales materials, samples, or lightweight equipment. The ability to lift and carry up to 20-30 pounds intermittently may be required.
  • Driving: Proficiency in driving and the ability to spend time behind the wheel for long hours, often on highways or unfamiliar roads, is essential. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are usually prerequisites for this role.
  • Communication Skills: While not a physical requirement, effective verbal and written communication skills are crucial. A salesperson in this role must interact with customers, explain technical details about heavy-duty trucks, and negotiate sales contracts effectively.
