Trial Attorney
About the role
Zurich is seeking a Trial Attorney for a hybrid role (one day a week) in our Boston, MA office. The role involves representing commercial insureds in moderate to high complexity General Liability and Commercial Auto personal injury cases.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and try moderate to high complexity General Liability and Commercial Auto personal injury cases.
- Perform duties encompassing all aspects of insurance defense, including initial investigation and legal analysis and advice.
- Prepare and file legal pleadings and documents, perform legal research, prepare for and conduct pre-trial discovery, prepare for and aggressively handle hearings and trials, and conduct post-trial activities where appropriate.
- Work independently and without substantial supervision, demonstrating case analysis ability and proven trial and negotiation skills.
- Handle remote team-based work using video conferencing, task assignments, and other computer-based systems.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor and 5 or more years of experience in the Insurance Litigation area.
- Active member in good standing with the Massachusetts Bar Association.
- Experience with Microsoft Teams and Adobe.
- Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims, and the insurance defense litigation legal environment.
- Knowledge of the law and procedure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Member of the Rhode Island Bar Association.
- Experience handling Workers’ Compensation claims cases.
- Experience with insurance industry claims and general commercial litigation.
- Well organized with good analytical skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, proactive approach to file handling and caseloads, and able to work independently as well as within a team environment.
- Demonstrates effective negotiating skills.
- Able to budget costs and calculate exposure for clients.
- Understands the staff counsel function and role in overall business.
- Experience of working in a paperless environment.
- Experience in a remote working environment.

The proposed Salary range for this position is $115,200.00 - $188,700.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10%.
