About the role

Housby is looking for a Traveling Diesel Technician to join our service team. This position will require travel to various job sites across the US in order to diagnose and repair vehicles according to OEM guidelines, with little to no supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and complete basic and complex repair activities at customer sites.
  • Maintain equipment by performing inspections to identify work and/or damaged parts.
  • Diagnose and repair vehicles according to OEM guidelines.
  • Correct vehicle deficiencies by replacing, repairing, and adjusting parts, including disassembly of major components such as engine, drive train, electrical, air conditioning, cabs, clutches, or other components.
  • Perform repairs within given timelines.
  • Complete road tests for vehicles, which may include driving them.
  • Document detailed steps taken for repairs and properly document time needed to complete repairs via computer system.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on vehicles.
  • Properly dispose of any fluids.
  • Clean workspace when repairs are complete.
  • Engage with customers in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Maintain a professional image at all times.
  • Follow general safety rules for each job.
  • Supply tools to make the job as efficient as possible.
  • Travel out of state on a frequent basis for weeks at a time.
  • Complete continuing education courses as needed.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of heavy-duty diesel mechanic experience on class 6 - 8 vehicles.
  • Certification from a diesel mechanic trade school preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Class A or B CDL is required.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Willingness to continue education as directed.
  • Ability to travel up to 90% of the time, with a maximum of 10 days on the road at a single time.

Physical Demands

  • Safety glasses and safety shoes are required at all times.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to withstand hot summer and cold winter temperatures.

Work Environment

  • Varied work sites, occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic substances, and outside weather conditions.
  • Works both indoors and outdoors.
  • Noise level is usually moderate to very loud.
  • Some weekends and evening hours will be required.
