Responsibilities
- Provide specialized care for adult patients with diagnoses including cardiac, vascular, sepsis, stroke, renal failure, and post-operative post-stent or pacer placement.
- Manage patients in a 40-bed adult step-down unit with an average census of 24.
- Titrate and troubleshoot infusion drips (Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, insulin).
- Interpret telemetry strips and collaborate with charge nurses who also take patient assignments.
- Assist with equipment such as Vents, Cpap, BiPap, and High Flow.
- Ensure patient safety and communication in a multicultural environment serving primarily Hispanic and Somali populations.
- Float to Medical-Surgical or ICU units as needed.
- Use overhead and portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners.
- Focus on patient experience scores, responsiveness, and medication communication.
- Chart using EPIC system.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and must reside within 50 miles of the facility.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
- Minimum 2 years of relevant clinical experience preferred (no minimum years required).
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips.
- Scrub color: Navy Blue.
Schedule
- 12-hour night shifts.
- Minimum 48 hours per week.
- One day of unit-specific orientation required.
- Cancellation policy: Up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment can be canceled by the hospital.
