About the role
Step Down Unit registered nurse (RN) position located in an acute care facility's intermediate care unit. The role involves delivering high-quality patient care for patients transitioning from intensive care, managing conditions such as arrhythmias, chest pain, and post-procedure care. This position requires working night shifts and participating in a flexible, self-scheduled rotation, with a focus on safety and clinical acuity.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality patient care for patients transitioning from intensive care
- Manage conditions including arrhythmias, chest pain, and post-procedure care
- Read and interpret electrocardiogram strips and use tele monitoring equipment
- Float into medical-surgical units as needed
- Participate in flexible, self-scheduled rotation with focus on safety and clinical acuity
Schedule
- 12-hour night shifts with minimum of 36 hours per week
- Rotating weekends; staff expected to work four weekend nights or days per schedule cycle
- Duration: 13 weeks

Required Qualifications
- Active License to Submit (willingness to wait for license processing)
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification
- NIHSS certification
- At least 2 years of clinical experience in a comparable setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within a step-down or intermediate care environment
- Familiarity with critical care monitoring and titration of drips such as Amiodarone and Heparin
- Ability to read and interpret electrocardiogram strips and use tele monitoring equipment
Unit Information
- Patient ratio targeting 1:4, but often up to 1:6 or 1:7 in float scenarios
- Manages patients with diagnoses including chest pain, arrhythmias, and post-procedure status
- Support from in-house hospitalist, intensivist, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and IV teams available 24/7
- Training includes orientation with preceptors
- Staff may be required to float into medical-surgical units as needed
