Travel assignment for a Registered Nurse in the ICU/Stepdown (Neurosurgical Unit) in Rochester, NY. Start date: 09/14/2026. Contract duration: 17 weeks.
About the Role
Hospital setting focused on neurosurgical care with mixed acuity, including an eight-bed high-acuity step-down component and floor-level patients. This role involves 12-hour night shifts, including weekends, holidays, and on-call/callback as needed.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct bedside nursing care to neurosurgical patients in an ICU/step-down environment, including brain tumor cases, spinal malformations, neuroendovascular care, and epilepsy surgery patients.
- Conduct neuro assessments with Q1 checks and monitor for evolving neurological status; respond to neurologic changes promptly.
- Manage neurocritical care devices and therapies (e.g., EVDs, lumbar drains, subdural drains, arterial lines); administer medications including 3% NS and Cardene drips as ordered.
- Maintain telemetry monitoring and hemodynamic stability; coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
- Assist with pre- and post-procedural care for neurosurgical interventions (carotid endarterectomy, aneurysm clipping/coiling, DBS insertion, VP shunts) and support seizure management.
- Document accurately in the electronic medical record; communicate changes with physicians and families; ensure patient safety and quality of care.
Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse license in New York (NY RN).
- BLS from American Heart Association (AHA) required.
- NIHSS certification or demonstrated competency required.
- ACLS certification required.
- Two years of RN experience, with explicit stepdown/PCU and neurosurgery exposure.
- Telemetry experience required.
- Ability to work in a high-acuity neuro/step-down setting; flexibility to cover weekends, holidays, and on-call as scheduled.
Pay
Weekly pay: $2,280–$2,350 per week. No guaranteed hours.
Schedule
12-hour night shifts, including weekends and holidays. On-call/callback as needed.
