About the role

Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Surgical Nursing position available in a healthcare facility in Peoria, Illinois. The role involves providing specialized patient care to post-surgical, trauma, and complex cases within a 13-bed ICU setting, with a focus on critical patient management, titrating drips, and interpreting telemetry strips. This is a short-term travel assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized care to post-surgical, trauma, and complex ICU patients
  • Manage critical patient care, including titrating drips (pressors, sedation, paralytics, insulin)
  • Interpret telemetry strips
  • Adhere to patient ratios (typically 1:2, occasionally 1:1 or 1:3)
  • Participate in float rotation as required; take a full team if floated to lower levels of care
  • Work six weekends in a six-week period and every other holiday

Requirements

  • Valid active Illinois RN license or confirmation that an application process has been initiated
  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS (AHA)
  • Minimum of 1 year of ICU surgical experience
  • Experience with ICU, trauma, post-surgical, open abdomens, multi-system trauma, and endovascular patients
  • Ability to titrate drips (pressors, sedation, paralytics, insulin)

Schedule

  • 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
  • Assignment duration: 13 weeks (08/31/2026 to 11/30/2026)
  • Six weekends in a six-week period
  • Every other holiday

Department Details

  • 13-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:2, occasionally 1:1 or 1:3
  • Support staff: nurse aides/patient care techs (1:10 ratio)
  • 24/7 in-house hospitalists and intensivists, with telemedicine ICU support
  • Equipment: vents, CPAP, BiPAP
  • Tele/monitor techs available to read monitors; nurses responsible for strip interpretation

Orientation

  • 8 hours learning EPIC
  • 8 hours with educator
  • 4 hours shadowing
  • 12 hours with a preceptor

Pay package is based on 12-hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with a tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
