About the role
This position involves providing specialized obstetric care within a Level III trauma center, supporting antepartum, labor, delivery, and postpartum patients. The role requires managing diverse patient cases, including high-risk pregnancies, and working on a rotating night shift schedule. The facility delivers approximately 175-200 babies per month.
Orientation includes facility and unit training, with annual core competencies required before assignment. Support staff on the unit is limited, with surgery techs phased out and available phlebotomy.
Schedule
- Night shifts, 12 hours per shift
- Minimum 36 hours per week
- Schedule cycle in 3-week increments
- Weekend rotation every other week
Responsibilities
- Provide care for antepartum, labor, delivery, and postpartum patients
- Manage high-risk pregnancies, including magnesium administration and medication management for substance abuse
- Perform cervical exams, antepartum and labor management, amnio infusion, epidurals, fetal monitoring, IV therapies, and Pitocin administration
- Couplet care and NICU attendance
- Utilize Pyxis and HUGS Security system
Requirements
- Active BLS, NRP, and fetal monitoring certification (AWHONN or Relias module)
- Valid state licensure as a registered nurse
- At least 1 year of experience in labor and delivery or obstetric care
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cervical exams, antepartum and labor management, amnio infusion, epidurals, fetal monitoring, IV therapies, Pitocin, and couplet care
- Experience with Pyxis, HUGS Security system, and NICU attendance
