About the role
Medical Surgical Floor Registered Nurse (RN) position in Weirton, West Virginia. This role involves providing care for a diverse patient population with conditions such as post-operative orthopedics, genitourinary procedures, general surgeries, and interventions in the Cath Lab. The position is scheduled for 12-hour night shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
Schedule
- 12-hour night shifts
- Minimum of 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend
- Rotating holidays (New Years, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Memorial Day, Labor Day) between two groups
- No self-scheduling; shifts discussed with staff and set schedules maintained with adjustments for vacations and holidays
- No on-call; standby available based on low census with early morning and evening allocations
Responsibilities
- Provide patient care including bathing, changing linens, assisting with feeds and ambulation
- Monitor and record vital signs
- Document in electronic medical records (Cerner)
- Manage drains, catheters, and perform EKGs
- Conduct blood glucose testing and bladder scans
- Transfer patients at discharge
- Troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as Cpap and BiPAP
- Administer breathing treatments as needed
- Interpret telemetry strips in collaboration with designated monitoring staff
- Transfuse blood, change wound vacs, and operate PCA pumps
- Rotate floating to other medical-surgical or intermediate care units as needed
Requirements
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Valid RN license
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience
- Experience or demonstrated ability to transfuse blood, change wound vacs, and operate PCA pumps
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in orthopedics, genitourinary procedures, general surgeries, or Cath Lab interventions
Nursing Ratios
- Day shift: 1:5 (max 6)
- Night shift: 1:6 (max 7)
Staffing & Orientation
- Patient care technicians on each shift
- Orientation: One day with educator and 1-2 days with preceptor
- Canceled shifts allowed in accordance with policy
Dressing Code
- Navy blue or white scrubs for nursing staff
