Job Description

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) applies nursing theory, technical skills, and communication skills to deliver high-quality, compassionate care to patients and their families. The ED RN assesses patient needs, identifies urgent or emergent care priorities, and collaborates to provide direct care and appropriate interventions while evaluating patient progress.

Responsibilities

  • Cover assessments and prioritize care in accordance with Triage Standards.
  • Assess physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients and families.
  • Utilize invasive and non-invasive techniques to manage emergency situations.
  • Establish rapport and maintain clear communication with patients and families.
  • Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures and provide post-emergency care referrals.
  • Teach patients and families about ongoing care and evaluate learning retention.
  • Maintain patient safety and comfort, while ensuring compliance with infection prevention strategies.
  • Document of care and re-evaluate patient responses to treatment.

Requirements

  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Stroke Certification (must be AHA or RQI).
  • Two years of acute hospital experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • One year of experience in an Emergency Department as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current NYS RN Licensure.
