About the role
The Agency of Transportation seeks a Transportation Operations Technician II. This position involves tasks such as repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching roads, picking litter, ditching, and assisting with plowing and salting in the winter. Overtime may be required.
Responsibilities
- Repairing guardrails and cutting trees/brush
- Patching roads and picking litter
- Ditching and other maintenance tasks
- Assisting with plowing and salting in winter
- Overtime work during heavy snowfall or emergencies
Requirements
- One year of work experience in construction, equipment operation, or related manual labor, including either one season of operating a snowplow with wings or six months of operating medium or heavy equipment such as graders, excavators, and backhoes.
- Or, upon successful completion of original probation as a Transportation Operations Technician I and possession of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Skills
- Excellent physical fitness and stamina
- Ability to operate heavy machinery and equipment
- Knowledge of highway maintenance techniques

Pay
The full salary range is provided, but new hires are typically made at the salary range minimum. As of July 12, 2026, the step 1 rate for pay grade 20 will be $23.75 per hour and the step 15 rate will be $36.88 per hour.
Schedule
Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, but overtime may be required during heavy snowfall or other emergencies.
