About the role

The Agency of Transportation seeks a Transportation Operations Technician I. This position involves tasks such as repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching roads, picking litter, and ditching. During the winter months, additional responsibilities include plowing and salting roads, with potential for overtime.

Responsibilities

- Repairing guardrails and other highway maintenance tasks. - Cutting trees and brush along roadways. - Patching and maintaining roads. - Picking up litter and debris. - Assisting with winter maintenance activities, including plowing and salting. - Overtime work may be required, especially during winter months.

Requirements

- No formal education or experience required. - Must be at least 18 years old. - Valid driver’s license is required. - Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for the successful completion of the original probation period. - Completion of all Vermont Technical College (VTTC) required coursework within six months or enrollment is required.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred. - Ability to work in extreme outdoor weather conditions. - Must be reachable by phone while working. - Exposure to blood and airborne pathogens. - Must be able to operate tools and equipment commonly used for maintenance work and lift materials commonly used in maintenance work. - Participation in a random drug and alcohol testing program is required. - Overtime work is required, particularly during the winter months, and is considered a condition of employment.

Pay

The starting salary range for this position is not specified, but new hires are typically made at the salary range minimum. As of July 12, 2026, the step 1 rate for pay grade 18 will be $21.41 per hour and the step 15 rate will be $33.11 per hour.

Overtime work is required, particularly during the winter months, and is considered a condition of employment.
