Transportation Maintenance Worker 6-E8 (Fennville Garage) - Grand Region
About the Role
This position performs maintenance of state trunklines within the right-of-way for a Region Maintenance Crew in the Grand Region. The role involves operating various pieces of equipment used in the maintenance and repair of roadways, bridges, forestry, signage, and winter maintenance operations. You will participate in the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Transportation Maintenance Worker (TMW) work element system and travel with a crew in the assigned geographic area.
During winter months, duties include winter maintenance, which may require temporary assignment to Maintenance Garages across the region. You will operate vehicles or vehicle/trailer combinations with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more, such as lift bed trucks, hydraulic cranes, or snowplows.
Responsibilities
- Maintain state trunklines within the right-of-way.
- Operate equipment for roadway, bridge, forestry, sign, and winter maintenance.
- Participate in the MDOT TMW work element system.
- Travel with a crew in the assigned geographic area.
- Perform winter maintenance duties, including temporary assignments to other garages.
- Operate vehicles or vehicle/trailer combinations with a GVWR of 26,001 pounds or more.
Requirements
- Possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) at the time of appointment.
- Obtain and maintain a CDL Group A with N or X endorsement and no air brake restrictions within 12 months of hire.
- Pass a pre-employment/pre-appointment drug test and physical (if applicable).
- Submit to random drug and alcohol testing during employment.
- Undergo criminal and driving record checks.
Qualifications
Education
Education typically acquired through completion of high school.
Experience
- Transportation Maintenance Worker 6: No specific type or amount of experience is required.
- Transportation Maintenance Worker 7: One year of experience equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker 6 or Laborer E6, with experience in roadway, roadside, bridge, sign maintenance, or pavement marking.
- Transportation Maintenance Worker E8: Two years of experience equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker 7; or one year of skilled trades experience at the E9 level.
Additional Requirement for Transportation Maintenance Worker E8: The MDOT Statewide Work Element Coordinator must approve satisfactory completion of the MDOT TMW Work Element training and certification program.
Pay
The salary range reflects the minimum rate at the entry (6) level through the maximum rate at the experienced (E8) level. Candidates will be reviewed based on education and experience to determine the appropriate level.
