Transportation Maintenance Worker 6-E8 (Monroe East Garage) University Region
This position performs maintenance of state trunk lines within the right of way in the assigned garage geographic area, though work may be assigned anywhere within the region.
Responsibilities
- Perform all surface, roadside general maintenance, and winter maintenance activities
- Operate various types of equipment
- Participate in team-managed work groups
- Participate in the Transportation Maintenance Worker (TMW) work element program
- Travel to assigned work areas throughout the region, including overnight travel
- Operate a vehicle or vehicle/trailer combination with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more (e.g., dump truck, snowplow)
Schedule
- Winter work schedule includes afternoon, night, and weekend shift assignments
- Scheduled and unscheduled overtime required
Requirements
- Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at the time of appointment
- If selected applicant has a CDL Group A or B with or without the N or X endorsement, they must obtain a CDL Group A with either an N or X endorsement and no air brake restrictions within twelve months of hire
- For Transportation Maintenance Worker E8: MDOT Statewide Work Element Coordinator must approve satisfactory completion of the MDOT TMW Work Element training and certification program
- This position is a Test-Designated Position; selected candidate may be required to submit to and pass a pre-employment/pre-appointment drug test and physical (if applicable), and will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing
- Criminal and driving records will be checked if applicable
Qualifications
Education
Education typically acquired through completion of high school.
Experience
- Transportation Maintenance Worker 6: No specific type or amount of experience is required.
- Transportation Maintenance Worker 7: One year of experience equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker 6 or Laborer E6 with experience in roadway, roadside, bridge, or sign maintenance, or pavement marking.
- Transportation Maintenance Worker E8: Two years of experience equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker 7; or, one year of skilled trades experience at the E9 level.
Pay
The salary range reflects the minimum rate at the entry (6) level through the maximum rate at the experienced (E8) level. Based on education and experience, candidates will be reviewed to determine the appropriate level.
