Transportation Hydraulics Senior Engineer / Project Manager
About the role
The Transportation Hydraulics Senior Engineer/Project Manager is responsible for providing leadership support in project delivery, business development, and growth of HDR’s Transportation Hydraulics Group in the Pennsylvania/West Virginia Area. This position involves assisting the Transportation Hydraulics Lead in strategic planning, overseeing technical project delivery, managing quality control, supervising staff, and promoting HDR through professional organizations.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Transportation Hydraulics Lead in the development of strategic planning
- Oversight of technical project delivery

- Coordinate with area client managers and marketing staff to identify projects and contract opportunities
- Direct and coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams involved in the project
- Coordinate with all subconsultants, coordinate with the client, keep project on schedule, keep project within budget, perform or ensure that quality control is accomplished for each project
- Supervise highway/roadway design team or teams, perform more complicated design work on larger projects
- Manage/lead/develop H&H modeling including 1D/2D hydraulic models to support planning and design of a wide range of flood and transportation hydraulic projects
- Manage/lead/develop engineering design including plans, specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents for a diverse variety of water resources infrastructure
- Lead/develop preparation of technical and non-technical reports and presentations including visualization of data
- Aid in business development activities including client relations, marketing pursuits, and project proposals
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 7 years related experience
- Minimum 2 years project management experience
- Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical proficiency preparing hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and reports, scour investigations, erosion and sediment control plans and reports, drainage, and stormwater management design, waterway and NPDES permitting, quantity & cost estimates, and specifications
- Experience with standard drainage analysis and design packages including but not limited to AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation OpenRoads Designer, StormCAD, EPASWMM, XPSWMM, HEC-RAS 1D/2D and/or SRH-2D river modeling experience
- ArcGIS Pro and HEC-HMS experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to support marketing efforts
