Transportation Engineer V - Information Technology Division
About the role
The Information Technology Division at The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a transportation engineer that can provide expertise in training and user support for all civil engineering disciplines, including bridge, roadway design, construction, maintenance, and traffic technology for engineering applications and software.
Responsibilities
- Manages complex projects
- Mentors junior engineering staff
- Develops innovative solutions
- Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations
- Supports TxDOT divisions and districts as a liaison with ITD
- Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines
- Provides support for TxDOT divisions and districts by acting as a primary help desk resource for highly complex and advanced technical and policy issues
- Assists districts with transportation engineering related matters
- Develops training courses and/or materials
- Provides assistance and technical support to districts, divisions and the FHWA in matters concerning engineering standards
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS
- Experience: 8 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
- Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license, Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment
Qualifications
- Experience with Civil Engineering Software and Applications
- Experience leading and supporting technology projects for civil engineering
- Experience training professional civil engineers and civil engineering staff
Skills
Extensive knowledge of: Hydrologic and hydraulic engineering principles, practices and methods and the application of engineering theory Road and Bridge construction and evaluation methods, procedures and regulations Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities Roadway and Bridge inspection and appraisal methods and procedures Expert skill in: Performing basic design and drafting Applying engineering principles, practices, and methods in job responsibilities Proficient skill in: Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
