Transportation Engineer I, II, or III, District Maintenance (Austin District)
About the role
Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities.
Responsibilities
- Answers technical and policy questions related to bridge inspection and maintains bridge inspection data; analyzes data and provides summaries.
- Affords assistance in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.
- Affords assistance with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
- Interprets maintenance standards, rules, methods, procedures, practices and policies.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
- Experience:
- Transportation Engineer I: 4 YEARS engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
- Transportation Engineer II: 5 YEARS engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
- Transportation Engineer III: 6 YEARS engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
- Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Licensed Prof Engineer*

- Pavement maintenance
- Design and plan preparation methods and requirements
- Bridge inspection and appraisal methods and procedures
- Maintenance concepts, methods, policies and requirements
- Applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements
- Contract development and oversight
- Planning, coordinating and handling multiple projects within area of responsibility to meet short and long-term deadlines
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
- Visual Acuity-determine work quality/make general observations of facilities/structures
