Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the program director, the driver will provide transportation for seniors 60 and over.
  • Transport clients to and from the designated senior center or social adult day services program.
  • Transport clients to and from approved appointments as authorized by the supervisor.
  • Plan and provide transportation for group outings as planned by program supervisors.
  • Provide transportation for individuals as authorized by the supervisor.
  • Drive safely at all times and report any incidents to the supervisor.
  • Be courteous to riders.

Vehicle Maintenance

  • Keep the vehicle clean and in good operating condition.
  • Inspect the vehicle daily and report any operational or structural defects immediately.
  • Oversee the maintenance, repairs, and cleaning of the vehicle (gas, oil, changing of tires).
  • Keep daily gasoline and mileage records.
  • Keep a vehicle report log recording all maintenance and repairs.
  • Pick up and return the vehicle to the garage or parking place daily.

Other Duties As Required

  • Assist in packing and delivering home-delivered meals.
  • Report any difficulties with meal delivery or changes in client status.
  • Maintain an accurate daily log of meals delivered and contributions collected.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel and coordinate delivery points to minimize time and distance.
  • Assist in delivering congregate meals to other program sites if needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Driving, bending, sitting, stooping, standing, and lifting.
  • Ability to carry or move moderate-sized objects (50-60 lbs.).

Competencies

  • Valid New York State Driver’s License Class B - CDL.
  • Experience with various types of vehicles, including a bus for 16 passengers.
  • Proficiency in using GPS, maps, and planning efficient routes.
  • Understanding of safety protocols, vehicle maintenance, and accident prevention.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Walking distances and climbing stairs.
  • Knowledge of the area and/or ability to read maps and follow directions.
  • Genuine concern for the physical, mental, and emotional needs of older persons.
  • Professional interaction with members and clients.
  • Reliability in adhering to schedules and deadlines.
  • Understanding of institutional and structural racism/bias.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting communities that have experienced systemic oppression.

Education And Experience

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year related driving experience required.
  • Experience working with the older adult population preferred.
