Transportation Dispatcher

About the Role

Under the supervision of the Transportation Manager, the Transportation Dispatcher plans, organizes, and implements transportation services for Senior TLC participants. This position requires constant interaction with IDT Center Managers, participants, caregivers, and community agencies, serving as the Transportation representative for one or more IDT Teams.

Requirements

• High School Degree or equivalent
• Must be 18 years old
• Minimum of 1 year of experience working with the frail elderly population
• Valid NC Driver’s License with a safe driving record (no major moving violations)
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and operate handicap-accessible vehicles
• Must meet a standardized set of competencies established by Senior TLC and approved by CMS before working independently and yearly thereafter
• Must be medically cleared for communicable diseases and have all immunizations up to date before engaging in direct participant contact
• Must be able to meet all physical requirements of the position, including standing, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, squatting, and walking for intermittent periods of time

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and plans all transportation trips for participants, including daily attendance, specialty appointments, discharge from SNF (Skilled Nursing Facility) and hospital, and daily dialysis trips (including weekends and holidays)
• Works independently to make scheduling decisions based on resource allocation and participant need
• Determines the safest and most efficient pick-up and delivery routes
• Receives and integrates feedback from Drivers into transportation schedules
• Attends IDT meetings and care planning sessions, communicating any changes in participant condition to the Center Manager
• Effectively communicates with participants, families, staff, and other agencies and departments
• Provides training and support to Drivers in collaboration with the Transportation Manager to ensure competence in driving all vehicles in the organization’s fleet
• Ensures Drivers meet competencies for driving specially equipped vans and operating wheelchair lifts and tie-down equipment
• Monitors and ensures all participants are delivered to appointments in a timely manner
• Attends staff meetings and may serve as a member of IDT teams
• Responds to emergency situations appropriately
• Maintains a safe driving record, with annual verification of a valid North Carolina driver’s license
• Participates in participant care planning, including implementing SMART goals/interventions and entering care plan information per organizational protocols
• Documents assessments, incidents, and other participant information in electronic medical records and other documentation resources
• Assists with special projects assigned by the Transportation Manager
• Performs other duties as assigned
