Transport Maint Crew Chief - Milam County

About the role

Leads a crew of transportation maintenance technicians and equipment operators performing skilled transportation maintenance activities. Reports to a maintenance section supervisor and assists in administration of the maintenance section. Work requires responding to emergency notifications on an as needed basis. Work requires contact with private entities.

Responsibilities

• Assists during accidents and emergency weather situations to sand bridges and roads and put up warning signs, and organize response of crews.
• Estimates and gathers materials and equipment necessary to complete assignments.
• Inspects roads while en route to and from job site and reports problems to supervisors.
• Inspects work performed by maintenance contractors.
• Maintains records on materials and equipment used and employee time sheets.
• Maintains materials testing and inventory of roadway maintenance materials.
• Operates light and heavy equipment.
• Performs some maintenance and repair on equipment and trains crew members on the use of equipment.
• Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions and troubleshooting of problems; presenting operational updates to the supervisor; providing input on team members’ career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

  Requirements

  • Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.
  • Experience: 5 years experience in roadway maintenance related work.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have obtained a Class "A" CDL, within 120 calendar days from date of employment.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Commercial driver’s license (CDL).

  Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of: Methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work.
  • Considerable knowledge of: Incident management procedures, inventory/stock control procedures, and applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes.
  • Proficient skill in: Operating light and heavy highway equipment.
