Transport Engineer Spec I - Design
About the role
Performs advanced and specialized drafting, calculations and design work; performs field work; uses automated systems; learns specialized techniques. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects.
Responsibilities
- Affords assistance in planning and coordinating office operations.
- Affords assistance in writing general notes, specifications and provisions.
- Performs advanced and specialized design work.
- Performs advanced and specialized drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features.
- Performs traffic engineering design work, analyzes traffic and accident data and recommends solutions for traffic problems.
- Prepares field notes.
- Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.
- Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.
- Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.
Requirements
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience: 6 years drafting, design, plan preparation. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of: Advanced and specialized design/drafting procedures.
- Considerable knowledge of: Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities.
- Higher mathematics.
- Applicable computer software applications and hardware.
- Interactive graphic and design information systems.
- Some knowledge of: Design and plan preparation methods and requirements.
- Computer-aided drafting and design systems.
- Expert skill in: Advanced and specialized design/drafting.
- Proficient skill in: Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others.
Skills
Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
- Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour.
- Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling.
- Stooping-bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist.
- Standing-prolonged periods of time.
- Talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words.
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading.
