Engineer I - Transportation
Job Summary
The Transportation Engineer I supports the planning, design, and coordination of public infrastructure projects within designated TIRZ boundaries. This role assists in managing capital improvement projects, reviewing development proposals, coordinating with consultants and developers, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Brief Description

Typical Duties And Responsibilities
- Aid in the planning, design, and implementation of TIRZ-funded infrastructure projects (roads, drainage, utilities, streetscapes, and public improvements).
- Participate on the design team for development of engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, and construction documents under the direction of a Registered Professional Engineer.
- Contribute to investigations and development of new concepts to solve unique problems in various facilities.
- Contribute data/findings for use in technical reports, designs, documents, or oral/written presentations.
- Interact in a collaborative manner with other team members, staff, and clients to accomplish organizational goals; may provide ideas to improve efficiency at group level; network primarily with own technical peer group.
- Apply standard practices and techniques in engineering.
- Aids in maintaining design and construction schedules and budgets.
- Provide support throughout the project and provide status updates throughout project life.
- Provide assistance to company personnel requiring engineering advice or direction.
- Aid in analysis and evaluation of products for company use.
- Provide input into the development and documentation of specific company design standards for use by all professionals working on company design projects.
- Serve on committees as needed.
- Cookordination with internal departments and external stakeholders.
- Cookordinate with adjacent construction projects which may impact the TIRZ.
- Monitor construction progress and conduct field inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans and standards.
- Aid the Project Manager in responding to stakeholder questions.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the construction areas, which may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection, etc.
Education, Certification And Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering or closely related field from an accredited institution
- Required Certifications, Registrations or Licensures: FE preferred; Valid TX Driver’s License and ability to operate a motor vehicle may be required
- 0-2 years of engineering experience (Internships or co-ops in municipal or transportation preferred)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with AutoCAD/Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite
