About the role
We are seeking a senior-level Transport Engineer III to join a Technology Solutions organization. The role involves designing, planning, implementing, and supporting complex transport and telecommunications network infrastructure. This position requires a technical leader who can develop carrier-grade transport solutions, lead large-scale projects, make independent engineering decisions, and mentor junior engineers while architecting the foundational transport infrastructure for network services.
Responsibilities
- Design, engineer, and implement complex transport network solutions using industry-standard telecommunications principles.
- Develop high-availability network architectures focused on redundancy, resiliency, scalability, and security.
- Lead the planning and implementation of new transport systems and network infrastructure.
- Collaborate with management and engineering teams to define future-state network architecture and long-term infrastructure roadmaps.
- Serve as a senior escalation point for critical network and transport issues, leading troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Create and maintain engineering standards, operational documentation, network diagrams, and technical procedures.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians on engineering standards and best practices.
Requirements
- A minimum of six years of progressive engineering experience in telecommunications, transport engineering, or network design and implementation.
- Hands-on experience in several of the following areas: Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM), Coarse Wave Division Multiplexing (CWDM), MPLS networks, BGP, OSPF, SONET and Ethernet transport systems, circuit engineering, OTDR testing, and carrier-grade transport systems.
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Technologies, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a telecommunications carrier, ISP, or service-provider environment.
- Background in optical transport and DWDM network design, MPLS backbone engineering, and multi-vendor transport environments.
- Experience with platforms from Nokia, Ciena, Infinera, Cisco, or Calix.
- Professional certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, JNCIA, JNCIS, or NRS I/II.
