About the role
Performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Performs advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts
- Reviews and supports Standard Operating Procedures for maintaining and archiving project schedules; managing resources; managing budgets; managing project changes, and managing quality performance measurements
- Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for complex transportation projects
- Aids in design, computer operations and plan preparation
- Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support
- Leads/Trains professional and administrative staff
- Makes presentations and represents TxDOT
- Serves as a lead worker and handles related tasks
Requirements
- Performs and/or coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, special specifications or special provisions
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS
- Experience: 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
- Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Licensed Prof Engineer*

- Considerable knowledge of Geometric design relationships to traffic operations, maintenance and construction
- Hydrologic, hydraulic and geotechnical design activities and principles
- Applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements
- Construction phasing and sequencing
- Critical Path Method for managing projects
- Proficient skill in Planning, coordinating and handling multiple projects within area of responsibility to meet short and long-term deadlines
- Leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others
- Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
- Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
