Transmission Line Worker Lead Trainer

Responsibilities

  • Deliver transmission line worker focused NCCER modules, assessments and performance profiles
  • Partner with project leadership and project-based instructors to schedule classroom instruction, online assessments and transmission line focused field evaluations
  • Ensure tools, books and other necessary resources are available for all sessions
  • Manage, mentor and audit project-based instructors, performance evaluators and proctors
  • Collaborate with project teams to create project training plans including schedules and approval of apprentice Transmission Line Worker applicants
  • Partner with Apprenticeship Program Manager and HR Coordinator on completion, tracking and storage of required Transmission Line Worker program documentation
  • Absorb new apprentice registration documents as needed
  • Utilize effective presentation skills including creative training techniques and adult learning techniques
  • Actively participate in transmission line subject matter review committees with NCCER and other organizations
  • Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
  • Instruct apprentices on safe work practices and procedures, including hazard recognition, grounding techniques and maintaining compliance with safety requirements during training activities
  • Deliver hands-on training in climbing poles and structures, working at heights and accessing transmission equipment using approved methods
  • Train apprentices in the installation, maintenance and repair of transmission and distribution systems, including wires, cables and related equipment
  • Provide instruction and evaluation on inspection and testing of power lines and auxiliary equipment to identify defects and support system reliability
  • Teach proper installation techniques including setting poles, attaching cross-arms and insulators, and stringing conductors and cables
  • Facilitate troubleshooting and restoration training, including identifying faults and safely removing electrical hazards through switching and grounding practices
  • Incorporate training on operation of vehicles, lifting equipment and mechanized tools used in transmission line work
  • Reinforce coordination and teamwork practices by simulating real-world jobsite conditions and crew-based work execution

Qualifications

  • Advanced communication, presentation and classroom training facilitation skills
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional methodology
  • Basic computer and software skills (Microsoft applications)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish fluency preferred
  • Ability to connect with and influence apprentices and other stakeholders
  • Adequate active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback
  • Ability to travel up to 75%
  • Licensed, journey or technician-level knowledge and skills in transmission line work or similar trade (at least four years)
  • Successful completion of NCCER ICTP within 3 months of starting the position
  • Exposure to OSHA training requirements
  • Exposure to NCCER curriculum preferred
  • Classroom training facilitation experience preferred

Pay

The base pay range for this role is $78,700 - $106,300. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
