About the role
U.S. Xpress is seeking a skilled and experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our team. The position is available for remote work and offers a compensation range of $35.38 - $38.05 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Tests, services, and repairs tractors, trailers, engines, and related mechanical components.
- Serves as leader to other technicians.
- Executes training programs for a shop with less than 15 Technicians.
- Trains technicians in troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing tractors, trailers, and related mechanical components.
- Assists and trains Technicians in non-technical areas such as leadership, conflict resolution, and soft skills.
- Facilitates maintenance of company standards and ensures all technicians under their lead are working safely.
- Tests and repairs electrical systems such as lighting, instrumentation, ignition, and electronic fuel injection.
- Disassembles and assembles equipment.
- Cleans tools and parts.
- Changes tire and wheel assemblies.
- Performs minor body repairs and minor trim repairs.
- Repairs or replaces worn and faulty parts.
- Diagnoses, repairs, and replaces engine management/fuel injection components.
- Inspects vehicles and issues roadworthiness certificates or lists work required before a certificate can be issued.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma required.
- A minimum of 5 years progressive experience as a diesel mechanic required.
- A minimum of 5 years of trailer repair and maintenance experience required.
- A Technical Diploma from an accredited Diesel Technology Program may substitute for 1 year of the required experience.
- Experience in conducting classroom and hands-on training preferred.
- Ability to work with all shop tools.

- Experience and proficiency in using OEM websites for diagnostics and repairs.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (specifically Excel, Powerpoint, SharePoint, Word, and Outlook).

- Driver's license essential.

Physical Requirements

- Frequently climbs 51' with one 24" step and pull full body weight.
- Frequently climbs stairs 24" without a hand hold rail.
- Occasionally pushes 250 lbs, pulls 125 lbs, frequently pushes/pulls 100/50 lbs and constantly pushes/pulls 50/25 lbs.
- Occasionally carries, lifts overhead, high, low and medium lift 51/75 lbs, frequently 50/21 lbs and constantly 20/1 lbs.
