About the role
The position is an on-call/relief role with a limited recurring schedule, covering transit operating hours Monday-Friday 5:15am-7:30pm, and Saturday 8:15am-3:30pm. Applicants should be available for these hours.
Responsibilities
- Operate a transit vehicle safely on designated routes and schedules, picking up and discharging passengers and operating onboard systems.
- Maintain a functional knowledge of the service area and transit system.
- Communicate effectively in person and through a two-way radio in a professional manner.
- Maintain a good rapport with passengers, the public, and city staff for friendly customer service.
- Collect and count fares, collect data like passenger surveys, trip completion reports, and safety reports.
- Perform pre-trip vehicle inspections, checking fluids, tires, lights, instrumentation, brakes, and other equipment.
- Attend training and informational meetings.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the assigned transit vehicle.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Five years minimum experience with the safe operation of passenger cars, trucks, or other motorized vehicles in various weather conditions.
- A safe driving history for at least three years with no convictions of reckless driving or driving under the influence in the last ten years.
- Possession of a valid Commercial Driver License (Idaho Class C or equivalent) with either P (Passenger) or S (School Bus) endorsement and proof of current DOT Medical Examination.
- Ability to pass a drug screen, driving record, and background check upon offer of employment.
Qualifications
- Experience working with elderly and disabled populations is preferred.
- Ability to operate transit vehicles safely, including in heavy traffic and adverse weather conditions.
- Flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends.
- Strong commitment to customer service and effective communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and handle emergency situations with confidence.
- Knowledge of operating an electronic mobile data terminal and passenger lift.
- Able to report to work on time and in proper uniform.

Pay
The posted wage is the hiring range in which the successful candidate will be placed based on experience and qualifications. The full wage range for the position is $17.11 - $24.89/hour.
