General Description
The City of Albany is now accepting applications for on-call Transit Drivers/Operators. We are seeking dedicated and passionate individuals to operate diesel and gasoline-powered buses on established routes, assist passengers, and maintain non-mechanical aspects of the buses. Essential Functions/Duties & Responsibilities
- Operates transit buses on various established assigned routes and adheres to schedule safely and legally.
- Responds to public inquiries about bus schedules and procedures; and provides assistance when necessary.
- Maintains an accurate accounting of daily passenger sheets, vehicle maintenance check forms, and other related records that may be required.
- Reports any changes to assigned routes or stops and all bus and passenger accidents immediately to supervisor.
- Responsible for passengers' safety including the enforcement of passenger regulations such as no smoking or eating on the bus.
- Performs daily vehicle safety checks before operating the bus and reports any vehicle malfunctions to supervisor.
- Maintains buses including fueling and cleaning; ensures supervisor is aware of routine service and repair needs of assigned vehicles.
- May perform minor maintenance such as changing lamps as needed.
- Represents the City of Albany by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor. Regards everyone, internal and external, as a customer and deliver the best service possible in a respectful and patient manner.

- Operates a motor vehicle safely and legally.
- May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel.

- Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education and Experience: A high school diploma or its equivalent and one year of job-related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Special Requirements: Possession of a valid A or B Oregon Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brakes AND passenger endorsement and a driving record that meets the City’s driving standards.
- Ability to pass post-offer background check, including driving history, and job-related physical required.
- In accordance with Human Resources substance abuse policies, incumbents in this position are subject to the City's Drug & Alcohol testing program.
