About the role
The Transfer Specialist is responsible for the care, removal, and transport of deceased individuals. This position collaborates with team members to ensure compliance with processes and procedures, safely drives company-owned vehicles, and maintains vehicle cleanliness. Professional appearance in business attire is required when in contact with families; casual attire is permitted for vehicle maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Safely drives company-owned professional vehicles to perform “first call” transfers of deceased in accordance with local, state, and company policies.
- Follows chain-of-custody, paperwork, and deceased identification processes.
- Collaborates with first responders, coroners, hospital staff, or senior living facility personnel, accommodating their processes.
- For home transfers, interacts courteously and professionally with bereaved family members, exhibiting sensitivity and minimizing conversation.
- Follows company procedures for transferring soiled garments, bedding, or other materials, ensuring a warm and courteous first impression.
- Enters deceased event information into proprietary software according to company procedures.
- Transports caskets to airports, care centers, or funeral homes; assists with moving caskets.
- Washes, vacuums, and cleans vehicles to ensure they are presentable.
- Fuels vehicles as necessary and follows safety guidelines and expenditure processes.
- Maintains personal protective and transfer supplies in vehicles, including cleaning products.
- Identifies vehicle engine or operating issues and reports them to management; drives vehicles for repair or inspection.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current state/province-issued driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- At least one (1) year of work experience as a courier or driver; direct customer interaction strongly preferred.
- Ability to work a schedule supporting business needs, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
- Ability to work on-call rotations for weekends, nights, and holidays.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and push/pull up to 200 pounds.
- Ability to drive in hazardous, heavy traffic, and adverse weather conditions.
- Basic computer skills required.
Work Conditions
- Work indoors and/or outdoors during all seasons and weather conditions.
- Local and/or multiple location traveling required.
- Comply with Field dress code policy.
- Frequent, continuous periods of standing, up to 6 hours per day.
- Climbing stairs to access buildings frequently.
- Physical effort requiring manual dexterity, including paperwork, calculators, computers, and phone usage.
- Lifting, pushing, pulling up to 75 pounds.
- Working beyond “standard” hours as needed.
- Local travel up to 100% using a company vehicle.
Pay
Salary: $20.50/hr. - $21.50/hr.
