About the role

The Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) seeks a Personnel Supervisor II to supervise, train, provide technical assistance, evaluate, and direct the work of the Transactions unit through Personnel Supervisor I position(s).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, and provide technical assistance to Personnel Supervisor I and Personnel Specialists in the preparation, processing, and submission of documents related to a variety of personnel transactions, including payroll and benefits.
  • Evaluate the performance of the supervised employees and provide feedback and guidance.
  • Direct the work of the Transactions unit to ensure compliance with state laws and regulations.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to employees and stakeholders on personnel policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of training programs for the Transactions unit.
  • Coordinate with other departments and agencies to ensure accurate and timely processing of personnel transactions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in personnel administration, preferably in a governmental or similar organization.
  • Experience supervising a team of personnel specialists.
  • Knowledge of state labor laws and regulations, particularly those related to personnel administration.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in human resources management, business administration, or a related field.
  • Valid California driver's license.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Proficiency in computer systems, particularly HRIS and payroll software.

Pay

$6,264.00 - $7,843.00 per month, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

This position offers a hybrid work schedule that is consistent with the department’s telework policy. The incumbent works 40 hours per week, generally in an office setting with elevator access and a cubicle with natural and artificial lighting. The position requires frequent contact with DIR staff, representatives from other State agencies, and the public in person, by telephone, and/or email.
